The first image is surely interesting because it depicts most accurately the Victorian fossil collectors gear, there is in fact also a sketch by Henry Thomas De la Beche of Mary Anning in the field with heavy clothing and a top hat http://tiny.cc/7r9gv - the google image is however an official painting of Mary and her dog Tray – it is possible that the painting was done according to the clothing standards for women at the time, ignoring the real needs in the field
RispondiEliminaThanks David for leave a comment! I completly agree with you...the portrait of De La Beche is more realistic, than the usual you can find on google! I don't like it for 2 reasons:

2. she is showed old....the same thing happens usual to Darwin!
